MEDALLION AWARD SYSTEM
The Medallion System is a means of recognizing Ontario-bred ponies, which have proven their superiority in the field of performance, halter, eventing, combined driving or distance riding.
1. In order for a pony to qualify for a medallion one owner must be a member of Pony Breeders of Ontario for the qualifying year. Smaller replicas are awarded to the breeder, provided the breeder is an active participant of Pony Breeders of Ontario. Only one owner medallion and one breeder medallion per qualifying pony will be awarded regardless of the number of co-owners and co-breeders. In cases where the owner and the breeder of a qualifying pony are the same, only one medallion will be awarded.
A pony is eligible to win more than one medallion per category.
2. Medallions to be awarded as follows:
First Category – Bronze
Second Category – Silver
Third Category – Gold
Fourth Category – Platinum
Example: If a pony started out showing breeding/in-hand classes it would be entitled to a bronze medallion. If it were trained in performance and accumulated enough points, it would receive a silver medallion. If it competed in Combined Driving, Eventing, Dressage or Distance Riding, it would receive a gold medallion. If the pony competed and earned enough points in a second category of performance (Combined Driving, Eventing, Dressage or Distance Riding) or mature breeding/in-hand classes it would receive a platinum medallion.
The medallion award goes to the pony. Should the pony ownership change during the course of the competition year, the current owner, who is a participant of Pony Breeders of Ontario, will receive the medallion.
3. Any pony who is the high point pony at the end of the year through the Competition Point Program and the Pony Participation Program will receive a medallion provided the pony has earned at least 25 points in that event, except for those ponies in the Pony Participation Program, who must have been ridden or driven at least 25 hours in the current year. Ties for year-end high point awards will not be broken. In halter and performance, medallions will be awarded to the owner on the date the award is earned.
4. In the field of distance riding (endurance/competitive trail) medallions will be issued to eligible ponies completing 300 miles beginning January 1 and ending December 31 each year. In Distance Riding, medallions will be awarded to the owner on the date the award is earned. Mileage may not be combined between endurance and competitive – it must be earned in one discipline solely.
All competition results must be received by January 15 the following year to be included in the current year’s tallies.
